- **Event Name**: NSYC Concert Tour: Take My Hand
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 20 Sep, 2026 at 07:30 pm (-03:00)
- **Event Description**: The Nova Scotia Youth Choir celebrates 35 years of musical excellence with two concert tours across the province!

Nova Scotia’s premier youth choir, the Nova Scotia Youth Choir (NSYC), will share their voices with audiences in all corners of the province with two performance tours this fall. The first performances take place Saturday, September 19 in Sydney, and Sunday, September 20 in New Glasgow and Halifax. The second tour will visit Wolfville on October 23, and Yarmouth and Bridgewater October 24th.

Composed of fifty talented singers ages 16-25 from diverse musical backgrounds across the province, the NSYC is a vital training program of the Nova Scotia Choral Federation (NSCF). These tours are part of a larger anniversary season of the NSCF as it celebrates 50 years of championing choral and collective singing in Nova Scotia.

The program, titled “Take My Hand”, is a thoughtful and heartfelt program crafted by the 2026 guest conductor, Halifax’s own Dr. Frances Farrell. Farrell says “[this music] invites us to explore the powerful role of music, of singing, and of connection in our lives - through times of joy and in strife. This concert is also an invitation to celebrate the Nova Choral Federation itself, whose unwavering commitment to serving singing communities throughout Nova Scotia continues to shape and foster Nova Scotia's cultural landscape.”

Farrell is supported by a faculty of fine local musicians dedicated to education in vocal performance and musicianship. New Glasgow natives Sheila Aucoin and Adam Johnson are the choir’s resident conductors, with Halifax’s Ria Kim on piano. In addition, Dr. Frances Farrell, Rhian Merrit, Paula Rockwell, Tristan Cleveland-Thompson and Zoe Leger shared their expertise with the singers as vocal coaches and workshop clinicians.
In a time of cuts to the arts and culture sector, with the sacrificing of Artists in the Schools funding and very limited grants for youth arts programming, programs such as the NSYC are vital for the health, growth and sustainability of our cultural sector, and need your support.

The choir’s first concert tour performances take place Saturday, September 19th at 7:30 p.m. at Heritage United Church, Sydney, and Sunday, September 20th at 1:30pm at First Presbyterian Church in New Glasgow, and 7:30pm at The Joseph Strug Hall, Fountain School of the Performing Arts, Halifax.

Tickets are $25/$10 (students) available to purchase at www.nscf.ca/nova-scotia-youth-choir or at the door where available.
