In celebration of the 50th anniversary of CKNS is running a multi-day festival paddling across Nova Scotia on the Shubenacadie Canal System! There will be 5 legs with clinics, cultural events, a paddle and a social event each month May - Sep 2026. Open to all paddlers and paddle craft!

Want to participate but don’t have access to canoe/kayak/paddleboard? Consider paddling in one of our big canoes! No experience necessary!

Registration fee: $15. Children under 12 free. Includes BBQ!

Stage 1:
May 18
Our paddle will begin at the Fairbanks Centre parking lot (54 Locks Road) from Lock 3. We will paddle through the Deep Cut up to Lake Charles. Lake Charles is fairly long (4 km) and we will paddle a portion of the lake before returning to Lock 3.

We will portage around Lock 3; docks are located on each side, including an accessible dock on the upper side of the lock. The paddle continues and we will need to portage around Lock 2 to enter Lake Micmac. Lake Micmac has many coves, abundant wildlife, and the existence of the remnant canal structures.

From Lake Micmac we will paddle directly into Lake Banook with its calm waters and various public boat launch areas. The lake is only 1.5 km long and we will end our paddle at the Banook Canoe Club. There will be a BBQ (included in registration fee!) and some social time.
