Following their smash hit production of Calendar Girls and the regional premiere productions of Shout!, Disenchanted!, Soho Cinders; Tommy and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown; in 2025 Third From The Right Productions bring to Halesowen Town Hall, the spectacular rock musical, "Jesus Christ Superstar".
The first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage, Jesus Christ Superstar (just like Tommy) is a rock opera also based on a concept album.
The show opened on Broadway in 1971 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre. The original London production ran for over eight years and by the time it closed, after 3,358 performances, it had become the longest-running musical in West End history at that time.
Jesus Christ Superstar has wowed audiences for over 50 years.
A timeless work, the rock opera is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally known series of events as seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot.
The show tells the story of Jesus in the final days leading up to his crucifixion. Loosely based on the Gospels, it focuses on the personal conflicts between Jesus, his disciples, the people, and the leadership of Rome. Special attention is also given to the fractured friendship between Judas Iscariot and Jesus, as well as Jesus’ relationship with Mary Magdalene, a devoted follower.
Since it started as a concept album, Jesus Christ Superstar is fused with 1970’s rock, gospel, folk, and funk; and is full of songs that have become pop hits including
“I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and the iconic “Superstar.”
