This brand-new bilingual play by National Latino Playwriting Award Winner Marisela Treviño Orta draws on Latin American and Indigenous mythologies rooted in Mexican and Peruvian folklore to tell a magical realist tale of family, identity, resistance, and hope. Its themes and story grew directly out of dialogues with local Hispanic families.
THE STORY: Best friends Daniela and Luis discover a dark force has come to their small town bent on trapping the adults in a never-ending cycle of tireless work in pursuit of the American Dream. With help from a mysterious and mythological figure, the teens travel to the Dream World to try and free their parents.
Featuring an all-local cast, this staged reading celebrates new work created for the people who inspired it.
Commissioned by The Liberty Theatre Company and developed in partnership with the Sun Valley Playwrights Residency, this production was made possible, in part, by a grant from the Spur Community Foundation.
