River Info: This is a fun 8-ish mile section in southwestern Idaho. Idaho might rate it a Class II+ on the sign at the put-in, but a lot of UT boaters might call it a friendly III-/III. It’s high volume water, so there are swirly sections and boils, and big, fun wave trains. The rapids are mostly pool-drop (ie, after a rapid, there is calm water to regain composure before the next rapid). The water is fairly warm as it’s spring fed, so even as we’re getting into October, the water temperatures should not be too cold, but dress for your own thermal comfort. If you have a hardshell kayak and don’t have a reliable roll, you need to be able to tap to get T-rescued and hold your breath for a reasonable number of seconds to let another paddler get to you. Please practice these skills on local runs, ask if you don’t know what they are. Required personal gear: All craft: PFD rated for whitewater, appropriate footwear, thermal and/or sun protection. (Helmets are still recommended for all types of craft.) Hardshell Kayaks additionally: Helmet, float bags or similar. You may need float bags in both bow and stern, depending on your volume distribution. Invasive Species Sticker: Idaho requires an invasive species boat sticker on each vessel. (Inflatables like duckies over 10 ft. need a sticker as well). They are $7 online, or you can peruse the map and try find a vendor up there: https://idfg.idaho.gov/info/boat-stickers It is highly recommended that you take care of this before you get to camp, as there will not be time in the morning. Boat inspection: All boats entering Idaho will need to stop at the boat check station. (Please note, you cannot buy invasive species stickers at the boat check.)
