Gympie is gearing up to welcome 2026 with an action-packed New Year’s Eve celebration at Nelson Reserve, promising an unforgettable evening of activities, music, and, of course, fireworks.
This year’s event features a diverse line-up of live music across folk, indie, alt-country and modern acoustic styles, with sets from Darren Hanlon & Shelley Short, Those Folk and Favourite Kid. This year’s headline act, Sunshine Coast folk-rock outfit Calan Mai, will bring their energetic, story-driven sound to the stage, fresh off performances with highly regarded artists, including Ben Lee.
In addition to a packed lineup of live entertainment, there are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy. Kids can take a spin on the Teacup Ride, have fun with colourful face painting, or be amazed by aerial performances. Plus, don’t miss our glow-in-the-dark Wishing Wall, a magical space where everyone can share their hopes and dreams for 2026. And when it’s time to refuel, there are plenty of food trucks offering something for every craving.
The event will be held on Wednesday, 31 December, from 5 pm to 9 pm, and is strictly alcohol-free. Families are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and camping chairs to relax and enjoy the evening.
Road closures will be in place on Monkland Street (between Bruce Highway and Jaycee Way) and Jaycee Way (River Road to Monkland Street) from 3 pm to 10 pm.
The Nelson Reserve Car Park (accessed via Jaycee Way) will be closed from 12 pm to 10 pm. Please observe detour routes and consider using surrounding street and CBD parking.
Council will advise the community in advance should the event be impacted due to wet weather.
This is a drug and alcohol-free event to encourage a safe space for everyone to enjoy.
