- **Event Description**: Wesleyan University Professor of Music Roger Mathew Grant, who specializes in 18th century music, will discuss Mozart’s Così fan tutte on Thursday, October 1, at 5:30 PM two days before the Met Opera's Live in HD broadcast.

Professor Grant is the Deputy Provost and Dean of Arts and Humanities at Wesleyan University. A music theorist and cultural historian, his research includes affect theory and the history of music theory. He is the author of two award-winning books:  Peculiar Attunements: How Affect Theory Turned Musical and Beating Time and Measuring Music in the Early Modern Era. He is currently completing a new book on mission music in 18th century Bolivia. A lifelong opera fan, Grant has held fellowships from the University of Michigan Society of Fellows, the Stanford Humanities Center, and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundations.

Mozart’s sparkling comedy of love, deception, and fidelity comes to the Met in Phelim McDermott’s colorful production, inspired by a 1950s Coney Island amusement park. Two pairs of young lovers find themselves on an uproarious emotional roller coaster, accompanied by Mozart’s glorious music.The Metropolitan Opera’s production of Così fan tutte will be broadcast live in theaters on Saturday, October 3, at 1:00 PM.

This talk is free and is co-sponsored by the Guilford Free Library along with the Shoreline Opera Club and Shoreline Village.
