The free seminar is planned for Thursday, May 7, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.During this presentation, author and researcher Lisa A. Lark will discuss her work researching more than 180 men from the Grosse Pointes who gave their lives in military service. She will share details about the research process, tell the stories of some of the Pointes' fallen heroes, and explain how to access military records for genealogical purposes. A short Q & A will follow. In partnership with Lark, The War Memorial is working to publish a book to honor more than 170 service members from the Grosse Pointes who gave their lives in military service—from the Civil War through Iraq and Afghanistan. This project ensures their names and legacies will live on as more than just inscriptions on a memorial. Held bi-monthly, The War Memorial’s VetConnect Seminar Series provides veterans with a welcoming space to learn, connect, and find support. Launched in early 2024, this free program features speakers from respected veteran organizations and partners. Her diverse professional background has helped her build a one-of-a-kind approach to communications that utilizes language, research, and analysis.Lisa is the author of three books that tell the stories of the men and women who have given their lives in service to the United States. Her first book, All They Left Behind: Legacies of the Men and Women on The Wall was published in 2012 in commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of Vietnam Veterans Memorial and is included in the Library of Congress catalog. She is also the author of There and Back: The Vietnam War Through the Eyes of Those Who Lived It and Gone Too Soon: Dearborn Remembers Its Fallen Heroes.
