A special moment for the Dutch jazz scene: on Tuesday, June 9, drummer Alexia Harpa will present her graduation concert, marking the completion of her Jazz Drums studies at the Prins Claus Conservatorium, as part of the renowned JazzJam@Smederij series.

Born in Bucharest, Romania, Alexia Harpa is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young jazz drummers of her generation. Known for her powerful groove, sophisticated musicality, and remarkable maturity behind the drum kit, she has quickly established herself as a rising talent on the European jazz scene. During her studies at the Prins Claus Conservatorium, she developed her distinctive artistic voice while performing alongside leading jazz musicians and earning recognition for her dynamic and expressive playing.

For this special graduation performance, Alexia has assembled an outstanding ensemble featuring some of the most respected names in jazz:

Ben Herman – one of the Netherlands’ most influential jazz musicians, internationally acclaimed as the founder and leader of New Cool Collective and recipient of numerous awards, including the Edison Jazz Oeuvre Award.

Miguel Rodríguez – the acclaimed Spanish pianist celebrated for his lyrical touch, virtuosity, and long-standing collaborations with leading European jazz artists.

Veerle van der Wal – a highly sought-after bassist recognized for her warm sound, creative improvisations, and strong presence within the new generation of Dutch jazz musicians.

Special Guest: Dion Hoorn – an exceptional young saxophonist and bass clarinetist who has already shared the stage with internationally renowned artists and ensembles, including John Benitez, Reggie Washington, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of the Netherlands, and the Noord Nederlands Orkest.

More than a graduation recital, this concert is a celebration of a young artist whose career is already gaining remarkable momentum. Alexia Harpa represents a new generation of jazz musicians who combine technical excellence with fearless creativity, and this performance promises to showcase both her artistic vision and her exceptional talent.
