Ever wanted to try backpacking but weren’t sure where to start? This is the perfect place to begin! Join me for my annual Backpacking 101 trip at Fort Richardson State Park, where we’ll hike the Lost Creek Reservoir State Trailway over two days, covering 9 miles each day with an overnight camping experience.


This is an easy and beginner-friendly introduction to backpacking. The trail is well-maintained, with minimal elevation changes, making it ideal for newcomers. More importantly, this is a hands-on, instructional event: I’ll be sharing my backpacking knowledge before, during, and after the trip, covering gear, packing, trail techniques, campsite setup, and more. You’ll walk away with the confidence and know-how to plan and enjoy your own backpacking adventures.


We’ll spend Saturday on the trail, set up camp, and enjoy an overnight experience under the stars. Sunday we’ll hike back to the trailhead, putting into practice everything you’ve learned. Along the way, there will be plenty of guidance, tips, and opportunities to ask questions.


This trip is all about making backpacking approachable, fun, and easy. If you’re interested, please reach out ahead of time so I can help you secure a campsite and answer any questions before the adventure begins.


Whether this is your first overnight hike or you’re just looking to improve your skills, this event is a safe, supportive, and fun introduction to the world of backpacking.

I will have blanks available at the start of the event if you forget. However, you WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to join the adventure without one being completed!
