- **Event Description**: Remembering Buxton is the story of Buxton,
Iowa, a coal mining town in southern Iowa in
existence from about 1900 to 1925. The town
was half Black and half white. A total anomaly
for its time, it was 100% egalitarian, with Blacks
in mine management, city government, and
professional life. Its neighborhoods and facilities
were integrated. It was a unique haven for a brief
golden time until the mine played out.

This puppet show will be performed in by
Eulenspiegel Puppets, Grinnell Area Summer
Camp third and fourth graders, with original
music by Dartanyan Brown, a renowned Des
Moines musician in the Iowa Rock and Roll,
Jazz, and Blues Halls of Fame.

The Eulenspiegel Puppets performance is part
of Grinnell College Museum of Art's summer
programming and are free and open to the public.
Funding support from the Artists at Grinnell
Fund, Iowa State Historical Society, the Greater
Poweshiek County Community
Foundation/Poweshiek County Alliance, Lincoln
Savings Bank, Grinnell Mutual, AmeriCorps,
Seed Coalition, Grinnell Center for the
Humanities, and the Grinnell Education
Partnership.

Minors under age 18 need to be accompanied by an
adult. Grinnell College is not responsible for minors
on campus or at College sponsored events.
