The Butler County Historical & Genealogical Society is proud to celebrate BCHGS member Mollie Smith Waters, known to many as “That Cemetery Lady.” A popular instructor at LBW Community College in Greenville, Mollie has a deep passion for Alabama history and the stories preserved in its cemeteries.

Join us for the Launch Party and Book Signing of her new book, Historic Resting Places of Alabama: Cemeteries and Graveyards Around the State.

Alabama is rich with historic cemeteries. While they are places of remembrance, they are also repositories of art, culture, and history that tell the story of our state’s diverse heritage. Each Alabama county is represented in the book by at least one cemetery with something unique to teach its visitors, making these resting places truly wonderful to explore.

During the program, Mollie will share stories from her journeys across the state, including how she selected the cemeteries and captured the photographs featured in the book. Expect fascinating history, heartfelt moments, and a few amusing tales from the road.
