STEM Exploration Workshop
🧠 Gene Xcellence Career Exploration Workshop Series: Middle and High School Students
🎯 Paper Roller Coaster + Mechanical Hand Challenge
Get ready for a double dose of hands‑on STEM fun! Students will step into the world of engineering and technology through two exciting design challenges—each facilitated by 4‑H through SC State 1890 Research & Extension:
🎢 Paper Roller Coaster Challenge
Students will design, build, and test their own marble roller coaster using paper, tape, and creativity while learning about motion, energy, and real‑world engineering design principles.
✋🏾 Mechanical Hand Build
Students will create a working model of a human hand using straws, string, and cardboard to explore how mechanics, motion, and technology are used in biomedical and robotic engineering.
Both activities are designed to spark creativity, teamwork, and innovation—helping students explore future careers in mechanical, civil, and biomedical engineering while seeing how problem‑solving shapes the world around them.
🎓 STEM College Experience with Clemson University
Representatives from Clemson University’s College of Science will lead a session on what it’s really like to pursue a STEM major. Students will learn about STEM pathways, college expectations, research opportunities, and the skills that help STEM students thrive.
Learning Focus:
Engineering Design • Mechanics & Motion • Innovation • STEM College Pathways • Career Exploration
Explore • Create • Engineer Your Future
