Step into the Maine wilderness of the 1880s with Dr. Lucius L. Hubbard—Harvard-educated explorer, writer, and mapmaker—whose birch-bark canoe journey across the Moosehead region became one of the most iconic chronicles of its time.

Local historian Tommy Carbone brings Hubbard’s legacy to life in this engaging presentation, exploring his influence on the region’s literature, maps, and memory. Carbone’s newly annotated editions of A Guide to Moosehead Lake and Northern Maine and Woods and Lakes of Maine offer fresh historical context and stunning visuals. Signed copies will be available for purchase at the event.

Highlights include:
– Hubbard’s Map of Northern Maine, which guided generations of sportsmen and lumbermen
– His documentation of Native place names, praised by historian Fannie Hardy Eckstorm
– A special exhibit featuring original maps, guidebooks, and archival photographs
