Most years since we started Doodad Farm back in 2011, we've been ending our season with a Halloween party we call "Boodad." It's evolved into an informal open mic event with pumpkin carving stations other fun activities. Everyone is invited, and all you have to is show up.
Here are the details for this year's Boodad party:
FOOD – This year we’ve invited our go-to food vendors, Joyce and Darrell of D&J Catering. They provide homemade comfort food that’s always delicious. Of course, you’re welcome to bring your own snacks, picnics, and beverages.
PUNKIN’ POKIN’ – We’ll supply a few pumpkins, but it’s best to bring your own. Also bring some carving tools if you have them. We’ll set up a station where you can carve your pumpkin while you enjoy the open mic performers. We may have a pumpkin contest if enough folks participate.
OPEN MIC – Our current plan is to set up a condenser mic (Ear Trumpet) on stage that everyone can use, so no one has to run the sound all night. If you have special sound needs, we’ll do our best to accommodate it. Starting at 5pm, write your name on the blackboard. We'll start the show shortly after 5pm with a three-song/15-minute maximum set and adjust that based on attendance. Keep in mind that we welcome any kind of presentation (not just music), so jugglers, comedians, spoken word artists or any other performance is welcome.
COSTUMES - You're welcome to dress up, and many folks do, but there's no shame in coming as yourself. Sometimes we have a costume contest.
OTHER DETAILS
• Kids, dogs, and all your friends are always welcome.
• This is an outside, farm like setting (thus the name). Dress like you’re going camping and you’ll be fine. We'll have fires burning if it's a chilly night, so consider bringing marshmallows or hot dogs to toast.
• We never allow weapons of any sort at the farm. If you think you need to protect yourself, you’re in the wrong place.
• If you’re a sitter, bring a chair. We have some extras if you forget.
• Smoking is permitted as long as you don’t bother anyone or do any butt-dropping.
• Please clean up after yourself and treat the Farm as if it’s your own (in a way, it is!).
• A portable toilet and drinking water will be available.
• Doodad Farm is a safe place for everyone.
Doodad Farm is at 4701 Land Road, Greensboro, NC 27406
