- **Event Description**: The Greencastle Summer Music Festival’s series of free concerts continues this Wednesday, July 9 as folk singer-songwriters Joe Peters and Linda Hicks grace Gobin Church at 7:30 p.m. to celebrate the release of their new album, “Crazy Where You Are.”

Joe and Linda will be joined by multi-genre guitarist Michael Kelsey, who will open the night with a solo session. Flautist Alexandra Hicks, violinist Allison Edberg Nyquist, and vocalist Jim Brehm, as well as GSMF Artistic Director Eric Edberg on the cello, will also be on hand. All of them played their parts in the musicality of “Crazy Where You Are.”

In addition to songs from the new album, Joe and Linda will have material from their extensive collective catalogue of previous albums, including their 2012 joint effort “A Thousand Ways.”

“There will be joyous singing, wonderful harmonies and some masterful guitar work throughout the evening,” Joe promised about this week’s performance.

The GSMF’s programs are a gift to the community from individual donors, Doc and The Dandelion: Your Local Bed and Breakfasts, and an endowment at the Putnam County Community Foundation. As its major sponsor, The Inn at DePauw hosts the festival’s out-of-town guest artists. Audience members are invited after the performances to The Fluttering Duck, which is located at the Inn and serves until 10 p.m.

For those unable to attend in person, the performances are livestreamed on the GSMF’s YouTube page at gsmfvideo.com.

About the performers:

Joe Peters has released 18 albums’ worth of original songs in the folk, rock, and Americana genres reminiscent of artists like Cat Stevens, Gordon Lightfoot, John Prine and others. Prior to music, he was an academic in natural resources management and taught and conducted research in South America, Africa, and Asia. When he came back to Indiana in 2006, he began playing his songs at open mics, restaurants, coffee shops, theaters, fundraisers, and other venues in the Midwest. In 2016, he moved to California where he continues to perform locally.

Linda Hicks discovered the joy of singing and making music with friends as a young adult. Over the years she has tried her hand at bluegrass, jazz, folk, and Americana music. She released her album “In the Corner” in 2007. She has enjoyed a musical partnership with Joe for several years and is heard on many of his albums. “Crazy Where You Are” is their second album together.

Michael Kelsey brings a free-flowing improvisational style to the guitar. From his funky, percussive playing style to his lush instrumentals, his performance style blends multiple musical genres and vocals along with some techno fun for a sound all his own. Emerging from a pool of 3,000 entrants, he won Guitar Center’s Guitarmageddon competition in 2004 and performed at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, where he shared the stage with many legendary guitarists.
