This Saturday, July 19th, Mario and I will be back up in the mountains to perform at Black Dog Social Club in Green Valley Lake, CA.
Living in San Bernardino County, which I recently learned is the largest county in the contiguous United States, we get to experience the diversity of nature's beauty and magnificence. From magical, sprawling water-colored sunsets in our remote Mojave Desert town, to the little hidden gem of a town embraced by towering pines, sprinkled with the glow of millions of stars above. Just a short ride out our front door starting on historic Route 66, we travel from Victor Valley to the highest point in the San Bernardino National Forest as often as we can, because it really is that beautiful traveling between these two realms as the sun sets and the moon rises. ?????
The show starts at 7:30PM, and like most nights we perform in GVL, we'll keep playing until our fingers hurt! ? We'll be playing some early jazz songs, jug band tunes from the 1930s, and maybe even some folk ballads like the one that's playing in the background, and original songs too that we don't get to play often enough. Yet another reason why we love performing so much in GVL at Black Dog- we get to play stuff like "The Cookoo Bird" that we don't get to do very often. 
A lot of people on the West Coast probably don't know, but when I started doing performances outside of theater, I was playing folk songs and originals for several years before I ever performed jazz music. I learned "The Cookoo Bird" listening to Clarence Ashley and also Doc Watson. The latter whom I saw in person, along with Jean Ritchie (by surprise too!- but that's a story for another day) while on a trip near Baltimore, MD at Common Ground on the Hill.
I hope you can make it to one (or all ?) of our shows this week. Friday we're at Godfrey Hotel Hollywood at ALK Hollywood , Saturday Green Valley Lake Events Page , and Sunday the 20th we'll be back Knott's Berry Farm.
