Make Your Own Personalized Dust Pan
Saturday, February 28 | Morning Session (4 hours)
Cost: $45 | Max enrollment: 10 students
In this hands-on fabrication class, students will design and build a personalized dust pan using a combination of wood and either aluminum or leather. The class is suitable for beginners and does not require any prior metalworking or woodworking experience.
Students will be introduced to basic layout and fabrication techniques for thin materials. Participants will learn how to safely cut and shape thin aluminum sheet stock or leather, form clean bends using a hand brake, and understand how different materials affect strength, flexibility, and durability in a finished dust pan.
Wooden components such as handles and backs will be pre-shaped and pre-drilled for beginners, ensuring accessibility for those new to the shop. Students with previous experience may choose to fabricate additional wooden components from figured hardwood offcuts. Instruction will include fitting wood to metal or leather, drilling, fastening, and assembly techniques.
Students will assemble their dust pan by shaping the back, fitting the handle, and securing all components into a finished tool. Attention will be given to ergonomics and sizing so each dust pan fits comfortably in the user’s hand and workspace.
Hands On Deck will provide all tools, materials, and equipment needed for the class. By the end of the session, each student will leave with a fully assembled, durable, and functional dust pan built by hand.
