Dempsey and Wheeler
John Wheeler and Dónall Dempsey read from their new collections, with floor spots available to the audience. Both poets write for performance as well as for the page. There will be refreshments included in the entry price of £5.00, payable at the door.
John Wheeler's new book, "What Did I Just say?" is a volume of some of the poetry - much of it comic - that has emerged from his performances over many years. Full of characters, stories, and voices, it's sharp, entertaining and thought-provoking. John is a multiple poetry slam champion and writer.
Dónall Dempsey's book, "Gerry Sweeney's Mammy" is grounded in his Irish childhood and adolescence, but it's by no means a standard autobiography: it's full of Dónall's lively original slant on birth, life, death and people, often surreal, often funny, often moving and usually a combination of all of those.
The Gallery Room is upstairs in the Swiss Church, near the Poetry Café in Covent Garden.
