Monthly Meeting: Novelvember Troubleshooting


Find your local writing community at the Great Bend Public Library! Writers from the Barton County area are welcome to join us for our monthly meetings to share and work on their craft. This fall, we’re focusing on Novelvember, an annual writing project that takes place during the month of November. Participants begin preparing for this challenge in September. The end goal is to write a 50,000 word first draft manuscript in 30 days!

We also have a special guest for our October meeting. Read on to find out more!

(Sept. 8) Learn about and gear up for Novelvember, a new take on a yearly challenge for all writers who want to start and finish the first draft of their own novel!

(Oct. 13) Take a breather from Novelvember prep to listen to our guest speaker, Laurie Murray, who is returning to share more of her projects inspired by real life experiences. Murray, a former assistant professor, teaching fellow, lecturer of English, and writing center director, taught creative nonfiction in Tennessee and South Carolina. Her essay  "Maidenhair" was the runner up in "The Iowa Review 2015 Awards" and was published in the winter edition 2015/2016.

(Oct. 27) It’s almost time to get writing! Check in with the group as we share in each other’s excitement to finally dig in and start our novels.

(Tuesdays in November) Pop in every week in November for a short session to share your progress with librarians and other writers participating in Novelvember. Stuck? Check out the prompt jar! You are also encouraged to hang out and write at the library before each session.

(Nov. 10) Need a change of scenery? Come to the library during our November meeting to work on your Novelvember draft! This is also a great opportunity for troubleshooting and feedback on your project from members of the club.
