"Being There" is a comedic political satire directed by Hal Ashby, starring Peter Sellers, Shirley MacLaine, and Melvyn Douglas. Sellers is Chance the gardener, a.k.a. Chauncey Gardiner, a misnomer that takes him from servants' quarters to the White House. The film earned Sellers an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
