- **Event Name**: 1619: The Journey of a People
- **Event Start and End Date**: Fri, 13 Feb, 2026 at 07:30 pm
- **Event Description**: In 1619, 20 enslaved Africans arrived in Point Comfort, VA. The 400-year journey that followed would change a nation and the world. Using various musical forms including hip-hop, jazz and blues, this musical theater production commemorates the struggle for equality and celebrates the story of America’s African sons and daughters.

This multi-disciplinary theater experience is expressed through three modern characters in a series of performance pieces that will leave audiences both inspired and challenged. 1619 features a dynamic cast of singers, actors, spoken word artists and dancers who reflect on the past while tackling critical contemporary social issues.

With an appeal for all ages, this production reminds us that on the other side of the trial lies greatness. Presented in celebration of the 250th birthday of the United States and in partnership with the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum.

Tickets to this performance can be purchased in-person at our Box Office, online at JLCenter.clcillinois.edu/1619 or by phone at (847) 543-2300.
