- **Event Description**: Paddy: I met Jack around 1975. He was already an accomplished professional player and I was just getting into acoustic roots music. Jack and I met through our common friend and mentor, Clarence H. Greene.
I listened to Jack and Clarence for a few years before I was ever able to join in and try to keep up. Jack began traveling a lot around 1984 when he went to work with Doc Watson and I would only get a chance to visit with him briefly during the next many years. We rarely had a chance to play music together until I joined the Red Rocking Chair band in 2015. The Jack 'n Paddy Show began around 2017 when Jack secured us a monthly duet gig in Free Range Brewing. The folks at the Jones House in Boone also promoted the Jack 'n Paddy Show, booking us for their annual Doc Watson Day. Jack has also been kind enough to invite me to perform the Jack 'n Paddy show at Merlefest a few times.

For me, playing music with Jack is as real as it gets. Jack has performed with every first-generation bluegrass master, every newgrass master, and toured for 25 plus years with traditional plus master, Doc Watson. He has shared the stage with all of my acoustic heroes and brings a wealth of knowledge to the Jack 'n Paddy show. Our music is entirely spontaneous and hearkens back to those informal pickin' sessions we enjoyed so much back in the 1900's. Every song and every solo features Jack and me working without a net. We tend to kick off a musical selection and see where it leads us. We play for our own love of the music and hope to communicate our respect and passion for the music to our audience.

Jack and I feel a deep sense of belonging to a musical tradition that is larger than ourselves. We approach our music from the inside out with reverence for tradition, passion for innovation, and joy for the moment.  Jack always says, “I believe fun is the best thing to have.” We know our show is successful when the audience has as much fun listening as we have picking.
