Join us for s really special evening celebrating the power of cold water! Brigid Lowe's Shiver charts her pledge to swim in 1000 Scottish lochs, while Beth McDonough's A Year in Water is a mixture of poetry and prose, recipes and tips all based a calendar year of cold water swimming.

We'll be hearing from both Brigid and Beth throughout the evening, so shake off your dry robe and head to St Peter's to embrace the healing power of a cold water dip!

BRIGID LOWE, SHIVER

After Brigid Lowe’s world is upended, Scotland becomes her home. Its icy, wild waters a place of visceral relief. Baptising herself into this new life, Brigid sets herself a challenge: to swim in 1,000 of these spectacular lochs.

And so Brigid’s adventures begin: stepping into ice and caves and sacred springs, she swims with birds, conger eels and seals, across forest and mountain and moor, alone and with her children in tow. And as she comes to know these secret pools, with their vaulting depths and softer shallows, she walks the line between recklessness and safety, discovering new depths of pain and pleasure, of strength and endurance.

Shiver is a love-letter to Caledonia – its flowers and rocks, its bogs and legends and hills – and to its chill waters, which swept Brigid off her feet only to carry her back home again.

BETH MCDONOUGH, A YEAR IN WATER

Organised around the calendar year, this is a beautiful and inspirational companion. Through poetry, handy recipes, tips and richly informative, and often funny prose, A Year in Water celebrates the challenges and joys of outdoor swimming.

Stunningly illustrated throughout, A Year in Water combines quietly humorous and observant prose, inspirational advice, lucid poetry, and waterside recipes. Beth McDonough takes the reader through all the seasons of the year, and into the UK’s wild, and more tamed, waters, inspiring the reader with practical hints, tips, and advice along the way.
