Native American communities face some of the most significant health disparities in the United States, rooted in systemic racism, historical trauma, and structural inequities. Despite these challenges, Tribal communities remain resilient, sustaining cultural practices that support health and wellbeing.

Ms. Russell, a member of the Choctow Nation of Oklahoma and Public Health Professional at the Centers for American Indian and Native Health (CAIANH) will explore the intersection of Native American health and research, highlighting culturally grounded methods and community-based participatory approaches. She will review key health challenges — including chronic disease, mental health, injury, and access to care — and discuss ethical research partnerships and collaborative public health solutions. Attendees will gain insight into how research and implementation can serve as tools for empowerment in Tribal communities.
