- **Event Description**: Join us for the world premiere of The Thumbelina Poems: A Song Cycle for Soprano and Harp, an imaginative new work that reinterprets the classic fairy tale through the ethereal sounds of voice and harp. 

This collaborative project features three Grand Forks artists. Poet Merie Kirby who authored the text; music composer and harpist Callie Stadem; and performers Dr. Anne Christopherson, soprano, with Ms. Stadem on harp. Ms. Kirby (Honors) and Dr. Christopherson (Music) serve on the faculty of the University of North Dakota, and Ms. Stadem is a graduate of UND’s M.M. program in Composition. 

The event will include an author’s talk by Merie Kirby, followed by the debut performance of the song cycle. A reception in the Anna Mae Room, at the Hughes Fine Arts Center on UND’s Campus will offer attendees the opportunity to meet and speak with the artists after the performance. 

This project is supported in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the North Dakota State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support is provided by a grant from The Arts Partnership.
