About the event

GRAMMY®–Winning Imani Winds Quintet to perform at NDMOA
Celebrating its 34th season the Myra Foundation Presents: Concerts in the Galleries will host the Imani Winds Quintet on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Celebrating nearly three decades of transformative music-making, the GRAMMY®-winning and four-time nominated Imani Winds has led both a revolution and evolution of the wind quintet. Known for their dynamic playing, adventurous programming, imaginative collaborations, and impactful outreach, they have inspired audiences of all ages around the globe.

The Museum has excellent acoustics for this kind of intimate performance, and concerts are always followed by a free wine and cheese reception where audience members have a chance to meet the visiting musicians.

Their repertoire bridges the traditional and the contemporary—featuring core chamber works, reimagined arrangements, and newly commissioned pieces by both renowned and rising composers. Imani Winds’ programming reflects the urgency and diversity of our times, amplifying stories and voices too often left unheard.

"Imani's performance was brilliant – intense, dynamic and wildly colorful."
— James McQuillen, Oregon Live

Well known to audiences at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center, Imani have been featured performers at festivals including Chamber Music Northwest, Chautauqua Institution and Banff Centre. Their unique residencies have included performances, workshops, and masterclasses for thousands of students each year at University of Chicago, Eastman School of Music, Duke University and many other campuses. In 2021, Imani became Curtis Institute’s first faculty wind ensemble.

Imani Winds’ contributions are included in the permanent collection in the classical music section of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC.

The season of chamber music by nationally and internally known musicians is the only series of its kind in the Grand Forks area. Chamber music can include both vocal and instrumental music played by a small ensemble with only one player to a part. Although it is often associated with string quartets, nearly any instrument and music from any musical period including modern and contemporary, can be found on a chamber music concert program.

All concerts are held on Sunday afternoons at 2 pm in the Museum galleries. They are open to everyone in the community and throughout the region. Tickets range from $10 to $35. Discounted season tickets are also available. Museum members receive discounted tickets and children 12 and under are free, as are students from 12-18 who play in their school orchestra or band. Seating is limited and guests are encouraged to buy their tickets in advance and come early for the best seats. Reservations may be made through the museum’s website at ndmoa.com or by calling 701-777-4195. Season tickets are also available.
