This is literally my favorite book of all time. (Besides the Bible)
More about the book: The Pilgrim's Progress is a Christian allegory by John Bunyan that follows the journey of a man named Christian from the "City of Destruction" to the "Celestial City" (Heaven). Along the way, he faces allegorical challenges and temptations, such as the "lake of Despondency" and encounters characters like Apollyon and Giant Despair, which represent the spiritual struggles of a believer.
Christian's journey
The burden: Christian begins his journey with a heavy burden on his back, which represents the weight of his sins. His family doesn't understand his need to escape the doomed "City of Destruction".
The path: He is guided by Evangelist and must pass through various spiritual obstacles, such as the Slough of Despond, where he almost drowns.
The trials: Christian faces numerous challenges and temptations, including:
Apollyon, a monstrous demon that attacks him.
The "City of Vanity," where he and his companion Faithful are put on trial.
Doubting Castle, where Giant Despair imprisons him until he remembers to use his key, "Promise," to escape.
The helpers: He is aided by various characters who represent spiritual guidance, such as the Interpreter and the women Prudence, Piety, and Charity.
