You can bring a piece of clothing that you would like to mend during the workshops or simply use some of the fabric provided.This workshop will cover common mending techniques such as darning, hemming, patchwork, and sashiko. Then there will be an opportunity to experiment with the materials we have and to try out these techniques on your own clothing. You could crop a shirt, try out some visible mending or simply add a patch to some jeans.There will also be a chance to use and familiarise yourself with some sewing machines.No experience needed - supplies will be available, and there will be facilitators to guide you if you need. We are not experts but are interested in mending, lending a hand, and giving a second opinion if desired :)Please note that this is a non-judgemental space - we hope to create a space to connect and experiment with mending techniques together so don’t worry about creating the perfect garment!We will be running this event twice to provide as much time with the equipment, materials we have and offer as much guidance as needed. The project aims to strengthen our community’s resilience by developing the skills and capacity for community leadership.As part of this, over the past few months Exhale has been working with 6 people from the community, providing them with training and support to co-create and deliver a programme of free events for the QTIPoC+ community, running from January - April 2026.This event has been organised and will be delivered by one of the participants of this project.
