About the event

FuBu: Make and Mend circle
Let’s breathe some life into our old clothes together!

About this Event

About this event

This event will be a warm and cosy space where we learn to use embroidery and sewing techniques to fix, alter, and refresh our garments. You can bring a piece of clothing that you would like to mend during the workshops or simply use some of the fabric provided.

This workshop will cover common mending techniques such as darning, hemming, patchwork, and sashiko. Then there will be an opportunity to experiment with the materials we have and to try out these techniques on your own clothing. You could crop a shirt, try out some visible mending or simply add a patch to some jeans. There will also be a chance to use and familiarise yourself with some sewing machines.

No experience needed - supplies will be available, and there will be facilitators to guide you if you need. We are not experts but are interested in mending, lending a hand, and giving a second opinion if desired :)

Please note that this is a non-judgemental space - we hope to create a space to connect and experiment with mending techniques together so don’t worry about creating the perfect garment!

We will be running this event twice to provide as much time with the equipment, materials we have and offer as much guidance as needed. Feel free to attend one or both sessions - new and familiar faces are welcome.

There will be snacks and warm drinks (including vegan and veggie options), and a space to chill out.

What we provide:
Use of sewing machines - loaned through Glasgow Tool Library
Fabrics, threads - feel free to bring your own too
Tools and equipment (needles, scissors etc)
Facilitators for support and feedback
Tea, coffee and light snacks

What to bring:

An item of clothing or bag that you would like to mend/alter

Fabric (optional - we will have plenty)

About For us, By us (FuBu)

For Us, By Us is a nine-month project running from September 2025 - April 2026. The project aims to strengthen our community’s resilience by developing the skills and capacity for community leadership.

As part of this, over the past few months Exhale has been working with 6 people from the community, providing them with training and support to co-create and deliver a programme of free events for the QTIPoC+ community, running from January - April 2026.

This event has been organised and will be delivered by one of the participants of this project. This will be the first event they have fully organised and delivered alone so we ask that you bring your patience, trust and openness.

Thank you to the GCVS Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund for funding this project.
