Our Hills nights are open mic nights and are an opportunity for local singers, young or old, amateur or pro, to enjoy a relaxed, social night out and a musical sing along.

Is it just for singers?
No way! Everyone in the community is welcome and after all, if every person sings, who will be sitting in the audience enjoying it?! If you’re keen to come out and relax and just listen to others entertain you, maybe meet some new people, or just see what Rocky Hill MTC is up to, then this is for you. You just need to love singing and/or being entertained (but a love of all things musical theatre or musical movies, is a bonus.)

Why do you run them?
We know you like to have fun and sing and dance! This is an easy way to do it. It’s great for first-timers who want to dip their toes in and for show people to sing a musical tune, without being in an actual production. 
This night is a fundraiser initiative. It’s a public event, where everyone is welcome. Entry is a $5 donation at the door and monies raised go towards our seasonal programs.

Hey, I really want to sing beyond my shower, so how do I get involved?
Well, we know you love to sing in the shower and out of it, but will everyone else want to hear you too? Hills Nights aren’t quite impromptu karaoke and they’re not rehearsed shows; they’re something in between. It has the relaxed feel of a casual night out and a singing session but we recommend and ask that all singers pre-rehearse their songs, choose songs appropriate for their pitch level and skill and feel confident or courageous to get up to sing, in front of a crowd.  

What can I sing?
Solo, duet, group song…all songs are welcome that are from a musical theatre show or musical movie. You can bring along an instrumental backing track on your phone or be accompanied live on keyboard (for this we need to know ahead).

To book your song and ask any questions, head to the thread. Please book by Friday 2nd Sept, if you’d like to be in the sets. Otherwise, just rock up to sing at the end for open mic. (A lot of people end up getting the will to sing, once the night and nerves have settled.)

How does the night run?
We kick off at 7:30pm and aim to have two sets of around 10 songs each set, with a break in between. At the end, we have open mic request songs, from the floor. The night usually ends between 9:30-10pm, depending on numbers. (We also put kid/youth singers in the earlier set.) 

Anything else I need to know?
The Goulburn Club is accessed by stairs only. There is a bar with drinks and snacks available. Come along and support the Club, which plays host to regular musical singers, bands and gigs. It’s a great opportunity to check the venue out, if you’re new here, as we move our Hills Nights around different venues in town.
