Behind the walls of Thorne Workhouse lies a fascinating and unsettling history. Originally built in 1838, the building served as a workhouse for well over a century, providing food and shelter to those living in poverty in exchange for work. Workhouses were often deliberately made as places of punishment, reflecting the harsh attitudes towards poverty during the Victorian era. The lives of those who passed through their doors could be extremely difficult, and the building’s long history has left behind countless stories, memories and unanswered questions. Today, the building has a very different purpose as a community Sea Cadet Centre, but its historic character remains. From its years as a workhouse to its more recent life as a Sea Cadet base, the building has witnessed generations of people pass through its doors. Thorne Workhouse has attracted reports of unusual activity, including accounts of a mysterious and dominant presence, unexplained sounds, children’s laughter and quiet conversations seemingly coming from empty rooms. We won’t elaborate further so as not to plant seeds: come and see for yourself. Whether you’re a seasoned investigator or completely new to the world of the paranormal, this is your opportunity to explore the building for yourself and see what you experience. Join Haunted Encounters for a fun, atmospheric and professional night of paranormal investigation, combining traditional Victorian-inspired techniques with modern ghost-hunting equipment and investigative methods. Unfortunately, we are unable to reserve or hold spaces without payment. 2. BOOKINGS & REFUNDS Due to event overheads and strictly limited numbers, all bookings are final and non-refundable. We are unable to offer refunds or transfer bookings to future events, regardless of the reason for cancellation. However, if you are unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your place to a friend or another person, provided we are notified of the change in advance. 3.
