- **Event Name**: From Ocean Floor to Hill Country – Fossils of the Texas Cretaceous Sea
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 07 Feb, 2026 at 10:00 am
- **Event Description**: Goldthwaite, TX — The Texas Botanical Gardens & Native American Interpretive Center, Inc. invites the public to dive deep into Texas’ ancient past with an engaging educational workshop, From Ocean Floor to Hill Country – Fossils of the Texas Cretaceous Sea, led by local educator Stephany Eoff on Saturday, February 7, at 10:00 a.m. at the Goldthwaite Pavilion.

This hands-on workshop explores the fascinating story of Texas during the Cretaceous Period, approximately 145 to 66 million years ago, when much of the state was covered by a warm, shallow sea. That inland sea left behind a rich fossil record that is still visible today across Central Texas and the Hill Country. Participants will learn about common fossils from the Texas Cretaceous Sea, including ammonites, oysters, clams, sea urchins, shark teeth, marine reptiles, and fossilized corals, and how these remnants help scientists reconstruct ancient environments and climates.

Designed for adults and young adults, this interactive workshop welcomes participants to bring their own fossils for assistance with identification and discussion.

Following the event, Texas Master Naturalist Theresa Strickler will be on hand to demonstrate the iNaturalist app.

Both events are free for TBGNAIC members, $5 for nonmembers.
