Hosted live on Microsoft Teams from November 2025 to April 2026, each 45-minute session (including Q&A) will feature world-leading experts sharing their knowledge, experience and passion for advancing healthcare through a One Medicine approach. Together, we’ll discover how collaboration between human and veterinary medicine can drive innovation, improve treatments and ultimately transform lives across species.

Opening the series: One Medicine and Cancer

The series begins on Friday, 7 November 2025 at 12:30pm (GMT) with Professor Kelly Blacklock, Professor of Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh.

In her talk, One Medicine and Cancer, Professor Blacklock will examine the intersections between cancer research in humans and animals, showing how shared understanding can lead to breakthroughs for both.

Kelly, who is part of a team of experts delivering our first major cancer research project, graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2005 and, following training at the Royal Veterinary College and the University of Bristol, was awarded a PhD from the University of Liverpool for studies into the genetics of metastasis in canine cancer. She is now based at the R(D)SVS, where her work focuses on the genetic and functional aspects of canine cancers, alongside clinical practice and teaching.
