- **Event Description**: We are incredibly lucky to have the exhibition of Icons on Ammo Boxes at Gloucester Ukrainian Church, GL1 4AE.

The exhibition will be Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th of July from 1pm til 4pm.

The ammunition boxes, on which these Icons have been painted, were retrieved by soldiers, medics and evacuation teams from some of the most deadly combat zones in Ukraine including, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Popasna - areas that continue to be under occupation to this day. 


Others are from areas surrounding Kyiv, Izium and Chernihiv, reclaimed when these areas were liberated. Although no longer occupied, these areas, as well as other parts of Ukraine, still face daily attacks from drones and missiles.


These Icons have thus become silent, yet profoundly expressive and eloquent witnesses of the war in Ukraine.

Drawn by Sonya Atlantova and Oleksandr Klymenko - renowned artists of Ukraine.

Their exhibition  of Icons on Ammo boxes has been presented to His Majesty The King and Pope Leo XIV.

Ten of the Icons have only just arrived from Kyiv and we are honoured that this is the second exhibition that they have featured.

Entrance is free, however donations to Aid for Ukraine Gloucestershire are encouraged on the day and refreshments will be available in the church hall.
