We’ll be bringing a summer vibe to Glossop Labour Club on Thursday 9 July, as we take a trip through the music of Brazil’s golden age.

From Tropicalia and Samba, to Bossa Nova and MPB (Música Popular Brasileira), we’ll be playing tracks by Os Mutantes, Jorge Ben Jor, Milton Nascimento, Elis Regina, Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque and many others. Along the way you’ll hear familiar sounds and songs, and discover a whole lot more… All on vinyl, of course!

To help guide us through the music, we’ll be joined by Brazilian journalist Laura Wilke, who worked in the cultural sector in Brazil for more than 15 years before moving to the UK. She’ll share some of the stories behind the songs and explain how this remarkable burst of creativity unfolded during a period of political upheaval and strict censorship in the 1960s and 70s.

It’ll be an evening of extraordinary music, powerful stories and joyous rhythms, guaranteed to bring some musical sunshine to town.
