Glossop and Bleaklow

Welcome to Freshwalks. This classic hike event is part of our own vibrant business community programme and everyone is welcome to join us for a day of hiking and networking in the great outdoors. Feel free to come alone - most Freshwalkers do - and you'll be warmly welcomed or invite a colleague or client along for company.

Route description

We start the day outside Glossop station before walking across to the old town. Very soon, we’ll start to climb onto the surrounding moors, passing Cock Hill on our way to Clough Edge where we pick up the Pennine Way. We’ll follow this famous long distance trail all the way to Bleaklow Head, our summit for the day. Thereafter, we’ll explore the B29 superbomber crash site near Higher Shelf Stones before our final descent back into Old Glossop via the old Roman road, Doctor’s Gate. This is an iconic, rugged and challenging Dark Peak route.

09:00 - Meeting, Glossop station
09:15 - Walk starts
12:30 - Picnic stop en-route (please bring a packed lunch)
15:30 - Walk finishes, Distant Hills Brewery, Old Glossop

Parking: There is a long stay car park on Edward Street, Glossop, High Peak, Derbyshire, SK13 7AE. This car park is 5 mins walk from either station or breakfast meeting points. Parking should cost £3.40 and is either coins or PayByPhone app. More information here.

Public transport: Please take the 08:33 train from Manchester Piccadilly to arrive in Glossop 09:03.

Toilets: Market Place, Glossop (5 mins walk from station) arrive earlier should you need to
