- **Event Description**: Makoshika State Park will host a "First Day Hike" on New Year’s Day. The guided hike will begin outside the Makoshika visitor center at 11 am on Thursday Jan. 1, 2026, and is free and open to all ages. (no pets please)
Participants will hike the Bluebird Trail; a mile hike out and back. The trail has some incline and may be slippery if wet. Participants should wear appropriate attire for the weather and sturdy boots with good traction. Hiking poles may be appropriate for some hikers. Following the hike, Friends of Makoshika will be providing participants with food and drinks inside the Makoshika State Park visitor center.
First Day Hikes are part of a nationwide initiative co-sponsored by America's State Parks. All 50 states will be participating in the annual national event that encourages everyone to celebrate the New Year with guided outdoor exploration.
