- **Event Description**: Journey through 5,000 years of farming, heritage and breathtaking views on a guided walk at Newtown HillAbout this EventWicklow Uplands Council is delighted to be part of National Heritage Week, inviting you to discover one of the most remarkable living landscapes in the Dublin and Wicklow Uplands.Join long-standing Wicklow Uplands Council member and local landowner Philip Maguire, together with his son Daniel (student of Archaelogoy), for a guided walk through the extraordinary archaeological landscape of Newtown Hill. As farmers whose family has cared for this land for generations, Philip and Daniel will share stories of the people who have lived and worked here for over 5,000 years, revealing ancient dwellings, burial sites, field systems and the enduring relationship between people and place. At Wicklow Uplands Council, our mission is to support the sustainable use of the Wicklow and Dublin Uplands for those who live, work and recreate here. There is no better way to deepen our understanding of these landscapes than by hearing directly from those who know them best. This is a unique opportunity to experience the uplands not simply as scenery, but as a living landscape shaped by generations of human history. The walk concludes at the summit of Newtown Hill, where participants will be rewarded with spectacular sunset views (hopefully!) across Dublin Bay, the Wicklow Mountains and the surrounding countryside.? Please Note: A moderate level of fitness is required. The 2 km route includes uphill sections and uneven ground. Sturdy footwear and suitable outdoor clothing are essential. Please come prepared for changing weather conditions—and perhaps a few midges!
