It will be suitable for beginners and those with some experience who wish to develop their skills.

We will start with some on-site sketching in the Abbey grounds, weather permitting, before completing your painting at Abbey House. 

While Sara will provide all materials, you are welcome to bring your own favourite paints should you wish.

A place on the workshop will cost £50, including materials and as places are limited advance booking, either online or in the abbey shop, is essential. Tea and coffee will be provided but please bring a packed lunch with you to the workshop.


Sara Trenchard is a local painter living in Glastonbury and working in the surrounding countryside. She trained at City and Guilds Art school in London and then later studied illustration at Somerset College of Art and Technology. She has also exhibited widely in the Southwest and has many pictures in private collections. More recently she has painted several large murals in Glastonbury, Bristol and Taunton and is represented by Heart of the Tribe Gallery in Glastonbury, having recently had a solo exhibition there.

For Sara, it is important to capture not just what a particular place looks like but the essence of that place. She uses a combination of hand-coloured collage, paint and ink to create colours, patterns and textures, which makes the picture glow.

She enjoys travelling around the country in her camper during the summer, finding places to sketch and paint, bringing those small sketches back to her studio to work up into larger paintings.
