In 2017, The Glasgow Barons introduced Ainsley Hamill and Norrie MacIver to the Govan Reminiscence Group, commissioning them to write new songs about local heroes and heroines and sing them in Govan with the orchestra. Norrie MacIver is a singer of range, clarity and melody, and although firmly rooted in Gaelic tradition, he has a voice completely at ease with a backbeat, effortlessly exploring rhythm and modern idioms.” - Calum MacDonald, Runrig. Norrie hails from Carloway in the Isle of Lewis and currently lives in Fife. From 2016 to 2025, he performed worldwide as Skippinish's lead singer, including Edinburgh Castle in front of 8000 people. Hailing from the West Coast of Scotland, Ainsley has built a career celebrated for its authenticity, merging traditional Scottish folk with a modern touch. Her Govan songs, appearing in the album "Not Just Ship Land", moved her into a more introspective and thematic songwriting style, with a focus on feminism and equality.Jessie Montgomery is a GRAMMY® Award-winning composer, violinist, and educator whose work interweaves classical with folk music, improvisation, poetry, and social consciousness.
