- **Event Description**: The Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill first introduced in March 2024 will conclude its Stage 1 deliberations by 23 May 2025. The Scottish Parliament will then debate the bill and decide whether it should go on to Stage 2 or be rejected.This panel event will therefore present a timely opportunity to discuss some of the key aspects of the debate about assisted dying for the terminally ill. It will also provide an opportunity to hear about some of the evidence from countries where it is already lawful.This is not a ‘for’ or ‘against’ debate panel discussion. This is a panel which will attempt to get behind some of the headlines and shed more light than heat. We aim to take a longer-term evidence-based perspective to try to take account of the spectrum of views which exist in society and the social and historical reasons for those views.After hearing from the panel members there will be time for questions from the audience.
