This seminar series brings together scholars and practitioners from psychology, education, disability studies, children’s material culture and related fields. We aim to foster critical dialogue on how disability representation, and its absence, shapes children’s identities, relationships, and societal attitudes. This series is organised by Claire Uytman and Sian Jones (Queen Margaret University), Charlotte Webber (University of Strathclyde), Katie Cebula (University of Edinburgh) and Rachel Milne (Cambridge University).Seminar 2 'Books and Reading': explores how disability and neurodivergent representation in books can support anti-ableist practice and challenge the often-overlooked phenomenon of ableism: a form of discrimination enacted through omission, inattention, and the privileging of non-disabled norms.Speakers include:Prof Sarah McGeown (University of Edinburgh)Dr Charlotte Webber (University of Strathclyde)Dr Zinnia Mevawalla (University of Strathclyde)This seminar is being co-hosted by the Salvesen Mindroom Research Centre and the University of Strathclyde.
