- **Event Description**: Join Dorset Youth (DY) and Dorset Council at Gillingham secondary school for our joint Youth Worker Training Day!About this EventTony Nye (Dorset Council) and Lilly Markwell (Dorset Youth) have taken on board feedback from youth workers and devised a 'one stop shop' of a range of training opportunities for you and your staff and volunteer team.This event is FREE to attend, funded by Dorset Council & Dorset Youth.The timetable for the day is as follows -9:00 am - Doors open9:30 - 11:00 - Workshop session 111:00 - 11:15 - BREAK11:15 - 12:45 - Workshop session 212:45 - 13:15 - LUNCH13:15 - 14:45 - Workshop session 314:45 - 15:00 - BREAK15:00 - 16:30 - Workshop session 4Lunch is not provided so attendees are required to bring their own. The following training is available to book:E mergency first aid at work (6 hour workshop)T his training looks at possible medical emergencies and how to deal with them, recognising types of medical emergencies, how to summon help and overall, this course offers insight to situations that could be life-dependent.Mental health awareness (3 hour workshop)An introductory course designed to increase awareness of young people’s mental health and some of the issues that can affect this age group.How to facilitate a creative Art session within a youth club- With Houseworks (3 hour workshop):This training will introduce the group to ways to engage young people through creative and accessible activities. The activities can be a useful tool to spark discussions, identify support and enable young people to communicate with workers and peersYoung People’s Choices Around Alcohol [1.5 hour workshop]:Busting perceptions, providing helpful information and life skills to help keep young people safe around alcohol.Young People – Vaping and Cannabis [1.5 hour workshop]:Looking at young people’s choices, impact of use and the law. Enabling conversations with young people to reduce negative risk taking.Understanding and completing risk assessments (1.5 hour workshop):This session aims to provide participants with an understanding of the risk assessment process and develop their confidence in completing and using risk assessments. The workshop will be a mixture of input and interactive exercises.Contextual safeguarding (1.5 hour workshop):T his workshop gives an introduction to Contextual Safeguarding, theories associated with it and tools you can use as a youth worker.Please share this information with everyone involved with your youth project, we want as many people as possible to be able to take part in these training daysIf you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us on youthworktraining@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk – this is a joint event between Dorset Youth and Dorset Council but we thought it made sense to use one email address as the point of contact to try and avoid any confusion.
