What are mala beads? A mala "garland" is a strand of beads (wood, seeds, or crystals) placed onto a string to make a necklace and often worn by a spiritual student. The mala is used to count breathes, recite or chant mantras, during meditation. As a spiritual tool, the Mala facilitates a deeper connection between the student and the divine aspect of the cosmos (nature, universe, god consciousness). You will learn to make a Mala, its symbolism, the traditional ways of stringing or beading the mala, and the use of mantras and intentions during meditation practice. We will work with various gemstones and natural bead materials to help cultivate and manifest our personal intentions.
