Meets First Aid needs for Scout adventurous activity permits & various National Governing Body (NGB) qualifications.

Calling all Scout leaders & NGB qualification holders (paddlesport, mountaineering, cycling, orienteering, caving)! Need advanced first aid? Our 16-hour Level 3 Outdoor First Aid course provides essential skills for managing incidents in outdoor & remote environments.

This in-depth course goes beyond standard first aid, tackling specific challenges in adventurous activities. Gain hands-on experience dealing with injuries & illnesses when leading groups outdoors. This course meets the minimum content for:

  • British Canoeing: Coaches, Leaders & Guides (moderate/advanced environments)
  • Mountain Training UK & Ireland: RCI, RCDI, LL, H&ML, ML, WML, MCI, WMCI, BMG holders.
  • British Cycling: Mountain Bike Leader Level 2 & 3.
  • British Orienteering: Coaches (relevant areas/environments).
  • British Caving Association: Local Cave & Mine Leader, Cave Instructor Certificate holders.
  • Scout Leaders: With adventurous activity Leadership permits.


Across 16 hours, we'll cover vital topics, including:

  • Incident Management: Systematic approach for outdoor incidents.
  • Casualty Assessment: Advanced techniques for prioritising casualties in challenging settings.
  • CPR & AED: Adult & child resuscitation, including Automated External Defibrillator use.
  • Catastrophic Bleeding Management: Effective haemorrhage control.
  • Shock Management: Understanding & treating different types of shock.
  • Head, Neck & Spinal Injuries: Recognition & safe management in remote locations.
  • Fractures, Dislocations & Soft Tissue Injuries: Advanced splinting & bandaging.
  • Environmental Emergencies: Hypothermia, hyperthermia, heatstroke & other weather-related issues.
  • Medical Conditions: Recognising & managing common outdoor emergencies (asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes).
  • Improvisation & Remote First Aid: Using available resources in challenging situations.
  • Legal & Ethical Considerations: Your responsibilities as a first aider.
  • Communication & Teamwork: Effective communication with casualties & rescue teams.

What to Expect:

This is a highly practical & engaging course with realistic scenarios, hands-on exercises & discussions to build your confidence & competence. Our experienced instructors offer expert guidance throughout. By course end, you'll be able to:

  • Respond confidently to various first aid emergencies outdoors.
  • Apply a systematic approach to incident management & casualty care.
  • Administer CPR & use an AED safely & effectively.
  • Manage severe bleeding, shock & other life-threatening conditions.
  • Recognise & manage common injuries & illnesses in adventurous activities.
  • Use improvisation techniques when standard equipment is unavailable.
  • Understand your legal & ethical duties as an outdoor first aider.
