Join us for a very special free event celebrating one of New Hampshire's most remarkable and mysterious artists, Connie Converse, born right here in Laconia.

At 1:00 PM, we welcome author and musician Howard Fishman for a presentation of Connie Converse: American Cassandra, drawing from his acclaimed biography To Anyone Who Ever Asks: The Life, Music, and Mystery of Connie Converse. Fishman spent twelve years uncovering the life of this trailblazing singer, songwriter, and activist who recorded intimate, visionary folk music in the 1950s and then, in 1974, simply drove away and was never seen again. As Ken Burns wrote of Fishman's work: "It takes a great journalist to find the stories behind the mysteries we carry. Howard Fishman has done that with his superb examination of Connie Converse."

Pitchfork Media celebrated Connie's work as "eclectic, ravishing, intimate songs years ahead of their time," and AllMusic praised her for making "songs far too vulnerable and odd to be accepted in her time."

Following the presentation, we'll spin Third Man Records' brand new vinyl reissue of How Sad, How Lovely in full during a community listening party. Copies of the album will be available for purchase on vinyl, CD, and cassette, and we'll have free Third Man Records promotional items on hand including posters, pins, and zines while supplies last.
