Join us at the Garden on the shortest day of the year for this magical, family-friendly gathering to celebrate the winter solstice.

Together we will mark the seasonal shift from fall to winter, a time of rest, for us, the plants and the animals, and to celebrate the return of the sun's light, which brings ever-brighter days and offers us new beginnings.

This year's lantern procession will follow a new route at the Garden, and will end with music by the fire on our back terrace. 

PROCESSION TIMES: 4:30pm & 5:30pm 

John Preissl, a storyteller and elder with ancestry from the Leq'á:mel and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nations will begin each procession with a welcome and a story of the significance of Solstice for the Coast Salish peoples. 

Inside the Pavilion, listen to the soft, enchanting sounds played by the Sunshine Coast Community Orchestra, while the Sunshine Coast Astronomers will project astrophotography of 'Flora in the Sky' onto the walls - if skies are clear, they'll have their scopes set out on the lawn to let us view the stars. 

Outside, marvel at the imaginative lightscapes created by artists Laurie Beeman, Driftwood Theatre School’s Technically Magic Program, Sherryl Latimer and Sarah Dhillon, and more.

At 6:00 pm, join us by the fire for some music, and toss in your wishes for 2026.

We encourage families to dress warmly, wear boots, and bring a flashlight and/or homemade lantern (LED or battery-operated lights only, no flame).

Parking is LIMITED. Carpooling is encouraged.
