About the Event:
Join us at Rowe Sanctuary and Birdability this Crane Season for an accessible Sandhill Crane Indoor Viewing experience in the Iain Nicolson Audubon Center. Learn about Birdability from Birdability Captain, Cassandra Dean, and watch the magic of the Sandhill Crane migration as cranes fly over the Platte River at sunset.

About Birdability:
Through education, outreach and advocacy, Birdability works to ensure the birding community and the outdoors are welcoming, inclusive, safe and accessible for everybody. Birdability focuses on people with mobility challenges, blindness or low vision, chronic illness, intellectual or developmental disabilities, mental illness, and those who are neurodivergent, deaf or hard of hearing or who have other health concerns.

What to Expect:
Relax with panoramic views of the Platte River as thousands of Sandhill Cranes gather, dance, and call just outside our windows from the Iain Nicolson Audubon Center.

Knowledgeable staff and volunteers are on hand to share insights, answer questions, and help you make the most of this unforgettable wildlife moment. Perfect for families, groups, or anyone looking to enjoy the magic of crane season in a cozy, accessible setting.

The viewing will occur on an outside patio and indoors where there will be accessible restrooms, accessible seating, and accessible parking, as well as a provided binocular/monocular station.
-This tour begins with a short 15-20 minute presentation with Birdability Captain, Cassandra Dean. Then, Rowe staff will discuss the itinerary and rules for the evening. Guests are then invited onto the patio to watch and listen to Sandhill Cranes flying into the river valley to roost. Guests may also view from inside the center. Once the cranes start landing, all guests will move inside the center to view from the windows as the sunsets.
-Guests may leave the event at anytime.

This experience is NOT ideal for photography.

This indoor viewing event is designed specifically for guests who identify as having accessibility needs, in partnership with Birdability. Our goal is to ensure a comfortable, supportive, and inclusive space for those who benefit from accessible seating, facilities, and viewing opportunities.

Because this program is intentionally structured to prioritize accessible participation—and is offered free of charge—we kindly ask guests who do not self-identify as having accessibility needs to consider attending one of Rowe Sanctuary’s other indoor crane-viewing experiences. These additional programs provide a similar high-quality viewing opportunity and help us keep this particular event dedicated to the community it is meant to serve.
