- **Event Name**: Trail ride with SWVJ-17
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 28 Feb, 2026 at 12:30 pm
- **Event Description**: We will meet at the Marathon at Ghent for 12:30pm and try to be heading out by 1:00pm. This will give me time to check the deeper creek crossing on CC Trail to see if it's dangerously deep or not. If it is we will adjust the route.

If you have a GMRS radio please bring it.

This is a Jeep Club hosted event, but anyone can come and run whatever you brung. All are welcome.

The intended route is to cover CC Trail, which is available to view on ONX Off road if you have the app. Then we will follow the pavement down to Odd, Pass through Odd and get back onto the dirt down to Fireco. We will leave Fireco and go over Whitby Mountain on Whitby Road which is a DOT maintained gravel road. Then we will go to Blue Jay 6 and over to Sundown Stables Road.

This is intended to be a casual ride for beginners. There will be some short sections of the trails that have some interesting features that will be fun for everyone, even the more experienced, but the majority of the miles covered should be pretty casual. This is intended to be able to be done in a stock Jeep Wrangler or similar vehicle. This is a Jeep Club ride, but anyone is welcome. My first time on CC Trail included a group which had a Subaru Forester in it. The route between Odd and Fireco is a dirt road that's been opened up and smoothed out by a local coal mine. It eventually becomes a haul road. It's super casual, just can be a little bit slimy on top if it rained recently. Sundown Stables Road has one small but decent mud hole and then some exposed rock that's actually not bad, just like driving over a series of curbs, not like real rock crawling where you can get into trouble, and then it has some washed out off camber sections, but again all of these features are short and not the majority of the trail.

Once we reach the end of Sundown Stables Road that concludes the main ride. Everyone that has had enough can peel out down the gravel road from there to asphalt and go to Beaver or Mabscott depending on which way they go. Anyone that wants more and wants a bit more technical experience can go the other way and follow C and O Dam Road up past the Beckley Gun Club. It's not a lot worse than anything encountered on the other trails, it's just got a lot more frequency of interesting contours and for longer distances. It has a few places that if you really do everything badly enough, you could flop a vehicle over on it's side. Not trying to scare anyone off from riding the trail, you'd have to do things really wrong. I did it and I'm still somewhat of a novice. I just don't want to present it to anyone like it's a 2/10 walk in the park and no one would ever be uncomfortable driving on it. To find that trail you need something better than Google Maps. Google shows a route that's gated on private property, the actual right of way that you can use is shown on Gaia if you have that one. I'm not sure about ONX.
