This year, we will observe Ploiaphesia starting with dinner on March 7th, followed by ice boat making for the ceremonial launching. Saturday will have presentations and crafts.
Sunday we will release our little boats with our wishes and blessings for the season at the river if weather permits. If the weather is too cold or wet, we will launch them into the stream by the red bridge. Traditionally, Ploiaphesia marked the opening of the season of safer navigation and was observed at coastal and river ports throughout the Mediterranean. It's a time of new beginnings and of "launching"  in all senses.
